Individuals from the HMS community were asked to share an experience related to unconscious bias based on diversity and inclusion. In these videos, the concept of ‘un’ was used in relation to the event the individual experienced during his/her/their life or working career.

Cheri Blauwet, MD is a sports medicine physician and Paralympic athlete in the sport of wheelchair racing. She is a leading expert in disability and health equity and in advancing physical activity promotion for people with disabilities. She spends most of the time chasing around her two young kids and trying new recipes from New York Times Cooking.

Alden Landry MD, MPH is the Assistant Dean for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership at HMS and an emergency medicine physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is also the founder and co-director of Tour for Diversity Inc.

Terésa J. Carter, MCM, is a Program Manager in the Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership at HMS. “Our names are a written and audible account of thought, intention, and legacy. Correctly saying each other’s names is a simple and meaningful way to value, appreciate and respect our individual stories, no matter the age.” Terésa is also the Founder/Director of Living Water Outreach for Girls, Inc.


T. Salewa Oseni, MD

T. Salewa Oseni, MD, FACS, is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist and a member of the Division of Surgical Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She specializes in breast cancer and oncoplastic breast surgery, her research focus is in disparities in surgical care.

Fidencio Saldaña MD, MPH, FACP, FACC is the Dean for Students at Harvard Medical School and cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is the son of immigrant parents from Mexico.

Li-Li Hsiao, MD, PhD, born and raised in Taiwan, came to the USA in 1983 for Ph.D. & M.D., still speaking with an accent but she was told by patients that she speaks “perfect” English, and once was told that she should be a stand-up comedian because she is a good storyteller.

José Martinez, MS, SPHR– is an HR professional and Title IX Resource Coordinator. He moved to Boston in 2012 but was born and raised in Rochester, NY with parents from Puerto Rico. He enjoys being a dog dad, traveling, spending time outdoors and working on his Spanish skills.
